How I'm Ploughing On With My Wisdom Cards. Having a Melt Down And Moving Into My New Studio Space

It has been an Internet free zone round our place during August as our router faded out.  At first I was fine about it and welcomed the change, then ... it just got too much.
I haven't blogged and felt very disconnected from webland.  It has been mighty strange.

I started to look at things very differently.  I began to step back into my own inner self.  I began to read things I had written and looked at everything around me with a fresh pair of eyes.

I began to start writing my Healing eBook; which will be available for download by the End of September (did you read that Jules? You just put that goal right out there and now you have to follow it through!)

I had a melt down about not having children and it has opened up the floodgates.  I'll share this with you soon.

Everything came back on 10 days ago and since then I have moved into my little studio space.  I spent some time in there today and it was so incredibly peaceful, even with the humming of the extractor fan from the Turkish restaurant next door.

I felt serene and calm as I created and wrote.

It feels like I am entering a new focused phase.

I have a wonderful new BIG commission which is making me look at different ways of creating.  I'll reveal more of this too.

All is good.  All is well.

With that in mind, here's my latest write up of my Wisdom Card.

Please enjoy, sending much love to you

All is Well

Release the Negativity. Explore any resistance and relax in the knowledge that you are able to heal.   You have the power.  You can change the way you approach the situation you face.

Background to the card:

This card was inspired by Louise Hay, Author, Metaphysical Teacher and founder of Hay House.  I was first introduced to her book You Can Heal Your Life almost 24 years ago when I was ill with M.E/CFS (myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome).  It was passed to me when I was in the depths of ill health. I was just embarking on my ‘back to health plan’, using a variety of complementary approaches and healing methods and when I read this book I realised immediately that it was going to accompany me to find my own way back.  I was transported into a metaphysical word that showed me I had the power.  I wasn’t waiting for one solution.  I was going to find many and use them all.   I devoured the book and used Louise’s morning and evening meditations – they helped me to learn to meditate and create a practice, it gave me extra courage to heal myself.

The meaning behind the card:

If you picked this card today it is a reminder for you also that you can heal yourself.  Whatever is going on, perhaps a persistent long-term health problem, you can become your own investigator and learn some simple healing ways.  One of the lessons I learnt all those years ago was to tune out from negativity that is streamed from television, radio and even people in our lives. The first to go was late night news and radio.  I realised I didn’t want to tap into this negative drip-feed.  The world is not defined by bad news.  My world had to be optimistic and encouraging.  I had to see a way through this ill-health.  I wasn’t opting out, I was becoming more focused and directed about healing myself.  I tried everything you can name and settled on the therapies and practices that complemented my healing programme.

This card asks you to switch off from the negativity of your life.  Let it go.

Don’t tap into the drip feed of negativity.

The symbolism and colour of this card is very important.  The colour surrounding this beautiful woman is turquoise, once again representing the throat chakra and our communication centre, with the dragonfly placed here it signifies ‘Illusion’.  According to Sams and Carson, ‘the veil of negativity that we accept as our reality, is in fact, incorrect.  It may be time for you to break down the illusion you have held that restricts your actions or ideas.  Dragon fly asks you to seek out parts of you that need to change.”

How to use this card:

This card asks of you to explore your resistance and relax in the knowledge that you are able to heal.   You have the power.  You can change the way you approach the situation you face.  Follow the image and place one hand over your naval area and one hand over your heart. Close your eyes and breathe through you nose for 7 seconds, then hold this breath for 7.  Exhale for a count of 7 through your mouth.  Really let go.  Then hold for another count of 7 and breathe in once again, counting 7 through the tips of your fingers.

Sit quietly, breathing in this way, for a round of 7.  Feel the gentle white speckles of white sunshine trickling over you, like a gentle shower of light bubbles.  Healing light bubbles, clearing negativity away from your body.   Know that you can do this at any time during you day.  Again and Again.

This card is a reminder to do just that.

I'm creating a set of 44 Wisdom Cards and Book -  each card will be inspired by someone who has meant something to me, someone who has inspired me or taught me something.  They could be people I know, or people I don't know, living or passed over. They may be people I have seen from afar.  They may also be animals and elements from the planet around me.  They may also be from dreamtime and with symbolism that I can’t recognise.  What I know for sure is, it will all unfold.  If you'd like to read more about this project, click here

Respond to Dreamtime - another Jules Dolly Wisdom Card

I am revealing another Wisdom Card.  I am so enjoying doing these; the paintings and the inspiration that comes with creating these pieces of art, but moreso I'm delighting in the wisdom and messages that are coming through.  This has been quite a unique experience for me.  I am finally allowing the messages to come through and honour the healer within me.

I grew up in quite a traditional/religious environment, which was fine for me, to a point. Growing up, I was always questioning my own spirituality and my connection to the Divine. Asking question after question about why we did this and why we did that.  My appetite for some connection was insatiable.    I never fully engaged with the observance of my religion but I did very much so engage with the spirituality of life and the universe.

I feel more connected than ever to the Divine.

Respond to Dreamtime

Listen to the whispers in Dreamtime and respond to them.  Become aware of the messages you’re receiving and notice subtle reactions.

Background to the card:

John Lennon is the inspiration for the wisdom of this card.  He appeared to me in a dream about 22 years ago.  I was very ill at the time with M.E/CFS (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) and dreamtime provided me with very many messages.  I took note of the messages and kept them close to me.  This message remains with me to this very day.

He appeared in the garden at my childhood home, materialising on a magic carpet, transforming before my eyes from baby to man.  I just knew it was him; he had this glow about him and of course, his guitar. The flowers in our garden were abundant and the door he walked through shone with bright yellow light.

There was a gathering in the garden; a party of sorts and John came right up to me and looked me straight in the eye.

“Do you believe there’s a universal force out there?”
“Yes, I do,” I replied.
“Do you believe you will get better?
“Yes, I do,” I nodded once again.

With that he took hold of me and gave me the most incredible hug and squeeze.  I felt elated and knew, right there and then, that I was going to get better and that I would heal myself.

John came to launch the healing process with a little bit of pizzazz.

The meaning behind the card:

If this card drops into your reading today, let John Lennon be the inspiration for this card.  It reminds you to listen to the whispers in Dreamtime and respond to them.  We all have to take responsibility for our own self and move forward in the very best direction we possibly can.  In a direction that makes us feel ‘whole’, ‘healed’, ‘well’ and ‘healthy.  Whatever it is for you right at this very moment, the card is guiding you to remember that you can read the messages from Dreamtime and notice your subtle reactions to them.

Have you dreamt of something recently that you’re still holding? If so, can you work out the meaning? Is there a message coming through your unconscious mind, a spiritual guide that you keep pushing away?

For me, this dream had quite an impact.  It was extremely vivid and bright; full of sharp colours and the squeeze that I felt, carried me through my healing process.  I was a Beatle fan but not necessarily a John Lennon fan but this sparked my interest to know much more about the man, his beliefs, his ethics and passions.  If someone has appeared to you in a dream, maybe you are being guided to find out more about them. If it's a symbol, an animal, or maybe a person you don't know, then research the hidden meanings.

How to use this card:

This card asks you to record your dreams but more so, to respond to them.  Look back at your Dreamtime notes and see if there’s wisdom peeping through.  What do you need to know?  Write out anything that is remembered first thing in the morning, upon waking.  Do this for a month and go back, review your words and respond to the messages.  If you need to find out more information, do so.

2 Years Blog Anniversary

It all began just over 2 years ago.  I was in France and I had the urge to write, to pick up a pen and buy a bright pink notebook.  Two years later and I have just submitted my 2nd manuscript, which will be published in July 2012.

So in 2 years, nearly 2 books.

That's something I am very proud of and want to maintain.

A book a year.

How fab would that be.  I know it's possible.

Here's the first blog post I wrote back on 17 March.

Actually Starting Writing Today - Rediscovering the pen.

I have been planning my book for about 20 years.  Yes I know this sounds ludicrous!! I have been writing snippets, notes, creatively bloomed the themes in lots of journals and notebooks.   Being in France since December, I have done more of the same, with new post it notes and scraps of paper.  Only recently I bought this massive pink notebook and have started just writing all different chapter headings and sub headings.  Each one on a separate page, giving it lots of blank space.  I thought I'd try using a pen rather than my mac (although I adore my macbookpro), I decided to step away from the tecky and get in touch with the pen again.    The whole point of this *I tell myself* is I can go back and when I fancy it, choose a particular topic and then write about that experience.  *I know I can do this on mac but it's the pen I think I need to rediscover ( I love all things pen-like, all things stationary so a book and a lovely Bic Intensity ticks a box for me)

And that's what I've done today.  Yippee! What an achievement.

What am I writing about?  I'm writing about my recovery from M.E (myalgic encephalomyelitis) also known as C.F.S (chronic fatigue syndrome).  I was really very ill when I was 20 until the age of about 26.  (I'm now 41).   Title headings range from What is ME, About ME; Symptoms; Family/Friends; Food; Body image/Weight; Environment; Sprituality; Arts and Crafts and getting creative' Pets; God/Goddess; Love life; Books; Dreams; GP Support; DHSS; Consultants; Support Groups; and a HUGE section on all the complementary therapies I experienced as part of the healing process.

This has given me a good feeling today - it reads back well and I feel like I have begun.  Yay!

Introducing my 44 Wisdom Card Project

For the last 10 years, I have been an avid card reader, seeking inspiration from tarot and oracle.  For me, they are energy messengers – messengers to my soul, helping me to gain insight about life, situations and also helping me to gain clarity and depth.

They don’t ‘tell’ me what to do and they certainly don’t ‘scare me’ - energy cards and tarot for that matter, are not here to do so.  Maybe, many years gone by, we would have sought out guidance from a soothsayer, a healer, a wise one, but they would use them as tools for conversation, for depth and for healing.

I have often felt guided by my spiritual guides, human and animal.  They are always beside me.  It’s not magic – it is energy.  When we spend time with our cards, we imbue and transfer our energetic message and we become akin to the cards and to the stories they hold.

Their origin may have religious symbolism, if you so desire, you can find those types of energy cards.  More often you will find energy/oracle cards that feature connection to Angels, Fairies, Animals, Goddess, Celtic Mythology, Kabbalah, Buddhism, Zen, including the iChing. I have quite a wide selection of them all – about 10 sets but my favourites that stay by my side are my Osho Zen, Fairies, Angels, Goddess, Glastonbury Tarot and Native American Animal Medicine Cards.

I have been building to this.  It started back in 2000 when I created my own set of Inspiration Cards – a set of small cards that contained favourite words, affirmations, lyrics, symbols, pictures.  These Inspiration Cards were kept in my handbag for quite a few years and I would often ask questions and see what the response would be.  They always gave me something to think about and ponder.  Something to get me to seek deeper answers.

So now I am creating a 44 wisdom card set with a book that I will write to provide the messages.

How is this project different?
In all the cards you can buy, the artwork is generally painted by a variety of artists who have submitted their work (or been commissioned).  The messages and words are written by the healer/writer/channel

I’m going to be doing both.

For this original card set I will be the artist creating the imagery, channeling the symbolism and the 'Writer of the Messages' for each card.

Where will you get the Inspiration for each Card?

Every card will be inspired by someone who has meant something to me, someone who has inspired me or taught me something.  They could be people I know, or people I don't know, living or passed over. They may be people I have seen from afar.   They may also be from dreamtime and with symbolism that I can’t recognise.  It will all unfold.

As I delightfully skip along with this project I will post pictures of the finished canvases and make prints available.  The ultimate end will be to create a full set of cards and have them published and made available for purchase.

When I have completed all 44, I will hold an exhibition to show all of my wisdom canvases - not quite sure where this will be at the moment.   The next step is to gift the finished pieces to the people or their family who have been an inspiration for me.

I have been greatly inspired by Lori Portka and her Hundred Thank Yous Project go visit her here to find out all about it.

How and Why did you decide on the number 44?

44 is a magical number.  To me, but also in other Oracle/Wisdom Card Sets.  It also happens to be my 44th year this year.

At the age of 11

This was a memorable year for me.  My primary school teacher in top Juniors told my mum “Julia has art in her soul”.  Have you ever heard anything so delovely from a teacher? He was my favourite teacher.  So incredibly creative, musical, artistic and funny with it, with the most fabulous handwriting.

He encouraged my musicality, my creativity and my art. I used to sketch, paint, sing, play the piano and the recorder.  He gave me confidence to perform and be up front in the choir.   I would sit for hours writing little stories and used to make up my own Mr Men book - I remember one, called "Mr Posh Nosh".

11 was the start of something.

At the age of 22

I was very ill and debilitated with M.E/CFS (myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome).  I had a diagnosis, which took 18 months, it was looking very grim.  Now living back with my parents and having to resign from my job, my independence and my life.  It was doom and gloom time.

However, something in my soul stirred.  I had a certainty that I was going to heal myself and it was at this point, aged 22 that I really began my journey of Healing ME.  Art, craft, creativity and writing played a huge part in that healing process.  I rekindled my love of creating, designing jewellery, tapestries, making clothes and combined with learning all about therapies that would heal me, I made different choices.

Although it wasn’t until I was about 29 until I felt fully well, 22 was a turning point.

Big Turning Point.

At the age of 33

I was living a life that was false.  I was married, wanting closeness, intimacy, babies and a complete family life.  This wasn’t reciprocated.  I was feeling very low in confidence and my relationship was making me feel like was I doing something wrong.  My creative self was hidden in a closet.  I was coasting – wanting sexual closeness, family and a sign that things would, could, be more joyful.

At 33, I turned within again and realised I had to heal myself.

Heal ME.

Again.

Only this time it was me, and not M.E.

I turned to DIY, painting and renovation, anything for a creative outlet.  It was through this process of creativity and reconnecting with spirit, visiting my 2nd home of Glastonbury that I realised, there was more and I had to have the courage to let go.

I tried to heal my marriage but it was not to be.  I left with a sad, sad heart and it took me many years to heal from this heart pain and to allow someone in again.  Through Creativity, Art, Healing and Words, I found Me over the next decade.

Now at nearly 44

My life feels like it has come “back to centre”.  I am in tune and connected to spirit, to earth, to love, to art, to words and to health and healing.  I am, thank goddess, in a loving new marriage with a beautiful soulful warrior who protects me, encourages and inspires.  My life work is exciting with pure potential.

When I look back through the 33 years since being told I had ‘Art in my Soul’ I know that I have.  I have honoured it.  There were a few bumps along the way but I have honoured it.

I have more to do and more to create and I will continue on this soul art path.

Although the grey hairs are more prevalent and I never did have babies, which does make me sad, I know I have a purpose and that’s to help, support, introduce, guide and show others how to do the same. To Heal Themselves.

This is the long version of my 44 Wisdom Card Project and why I chose 44 cards.

I intend to complete this project by July when I’m celebrating.

Thank you for reading thus far and please share any memory below that you may have of me at 11, 22, 33 and nearly 44.

What fun, let’s get started.

Much Love

Writing about M.E.

I've decided something this morning.  I woke at 5am, many flying thoughts in my brain.  One strong one was:-  "I must go back to writing my book about ME - it's time".

22 years ago, when I was 20 (gulp, is it really that long ago), I became ill.  Flu.  That's what we thought it was, a really bad case of flu that turned up on christmas eve in 1988.  I was living and working away in Manchester and feeling so terribly ill, having no flatmate as she'd gone away, my mum came over to pick me up, pack a few things for me and take me home to Liverpool.

Little did I know that I would never return.  Never return back to work, back to the flat, or back to life (well at least for 6 years).

As you do, when you have flu, you sleep.  We're talking, proper flu here, not a cold where you struggle on.   I could not shift it - it was hanging around and the doc thought I had glandular fever, so I had a fair few tests which all came back negative.  (This is quite usual when being first diagnosed.).

It was only by the end of February that I was referred to see a consultant who diagnosed M.E.

"M what?"

"M.E.  It stands for myalgic encephalomyelitis, also knows as chronic fatigue syndrome".

That was really the beginning of the unfolding self healing journey.  I didn't know it right back then but that is exactly what I would embark upon.   Self healing.  I learnt very quickly that nothing within western medicine could help, there were no pills, no treatments (albeit some small rumblings of research and thoughts).  Just the unfortunate tag of 'yuppie flu'.  Oh goddess how that phrase hurt.

I have diaries that I wrote during this time which record how I was feeling, the treatments I had, mostly complementary, the weird and wonderful practitioners I met, not forgetting the personalities in my life that kept me going, ones who made me want to hide and the few who I wanted to award an oscar.

So at 5am I decided I'm going to continue with this writing which I started recently but have put on hold, it feels right now and through my blog I can post snapshots as I write.  It will hopefully keep me on track.

M.E lasted until I was about 28 although at 26 I was able to go to university to study an honours degree.  It wasn't until I was 30 that I really felt completely well.

So 12 years on, I can honestly say that I walked the path and came out the other side.  I'm one of the lucky ones.
